Energized by a summer full of puzzles and international online matches, and coming off our own Welcome Back Chess party, the Q300 Chess Team descended upon Hunter on Sunday 9/22 for the first tournament of the season with 24(!) players in tow. The tournament was huge – 400 kids competing in 10 sections. We had some very notable performances:
– Reserve: Alexandra Ghile (grade 6) shared first place with a perfect 4-0.
– Primary: Gabriela Ghile (grade 3) and Elizabeth Li (grade 2) tied for 6th place with 3-1 scores.
– Unrated 2-3: Nathan Peled (grade 2) took second place with a 3-1 score.
– Unrated K-1: Landon Koh (grade 1) tied for 3rd place with a 3-1 result.
Congrats to the entire team – it was a very positive and energetic day for all! Special thanks to coaches Saudin, Ivan, and Chris for spending countless hours preparing, reviewing the kids’ games, helping parents, and even cleaning up.
